Chrome Extension to prevent PHISHING...

As stated in many posts these days human has been considered to be the entry point to compromise the system. There are many cases regarding #Phishing technique. Recently an extension has been made available for chrome users that can prevent phishing technique.

Phishing is the technique of setting up a completely fake web page more like the original and make the victim to visit the page and make him / her to login and thereby getting the credentials of the users.Phishing is very deadly when sites such as online banking has been made.

Search Engine giant has launched a new Password Alert Chrome extension that will alert the user when the user visits the fake page and attempt to login.

The advantage of using this extension is that

1. It prevents the user from re-using the Google account password on other websites.
2. It protects the user if the user typed the same Google password on a non-Google website by generating a warning.

According to reports, nearly two percent of e-mail messages transmitted are phishing mails. The extension once installed it stored a scrambled version of the user's Google account password in an encrypted cryptographic format

The extension after installing prompts the user to login again even if it is logged in already and once logged in it will start monitoring.

The source code for the extension is available on GitHub. The extension can be downloaded from Chrome Web store from here.

Lost the Mobile ? Google it now..

Mobile phone theft has been increasing at a rapid rate and many users loses their mobile phone and data along with it. Recently Google introduced a new way if the user has lost the mobile phone. Users can just Google it and find the mobile phone.

Theft not only meant by thief but also the user may forget the location of the phone either at home or at office. Consider a mobile phone has been placed below the pillow or bed spread and searching it when it is in silent mode.

Google introduces a new feature on past Wednesday that let the user of the #Android smartphone or tablet using the search engine on the desktop computer.

If the mobile phone location is not known

1. Log-in to the same Google Account on Desktop computer's browser
that the user use on the Android device.
2. Type "Find my phone" into Google's search engine.

After pressing Enter button or on a click Google will display the accurate location on the map. It is said that the accuracy was accurate to 35 feet.

Google also offers a Ring button on the map and if you press the button the search engine will ring  the smartphone at full volume for up to five minutes. After finding the device press on power button to stop ringing.

To enable this feature the device should have a Updated Google App in the device. Similar feature is available in Android Device Manager where the user can reset the phone remotely.

For Apple users iPhone already has the feature named Find My iPhone that helps the users to track the mobile with location, locking the phone and erasing the data.

New Protocol for Speed Internet.

In this Internet world, Speed seems to be one of the major issue every user is facing. Every user wants higher bandwidth. Recently Google developed a new protocol that can speed up the existing Internet speed.

The newly developed protocol is known as #QUIC ( Quick UDP Internet Connections ). The protocol seems to be new but it has been implemented in Chrome browser earlier.

#QUIC is a low latency transport protocol for the modern Internet over UDP. UDP is used for streaming media, gaming and VoIP services where data loss is not a major issue.

The giant Google already implemented the experimental protocol into chrome in June 2013. One of the key feature of the protocol is that it runs a stream multiplexing protocol on top of UDP instead of TCP.

QUIC also reduces the network Round-Trip Time ( RTT ) for increasing the speed that is the time it takes to establish a connection to a server.

Some of the highlights of QUIC are as follows

1. Packet pacing to reduce packet loss.
2. A pluggable congestion control mechanism.
3. UDP transport to avoid TCP head-of-line blocking.
4. High Security.
5. Packet error correction.
6. A Connection identifier.

The main goal is the Zero-RTT connectivity overhead and SPDY support. SPDY is a protocol by Google for upcoming HTTP/2.
